Strategic Planning and Organizational Health Development

I am providing technical assistance to State Primary Care Associations and Primary Care Organizations funded for community development projects as part of the Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) sponsored national Campaign for "100% Access and Zero Health Disparities." I am providing strategic planning assistance, and community-based consultation for state primary care associations -- membership associations for federally funded community health centers -- participating in this Campaign, most notably in Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Colorado, North Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska. Between 1998 and 2000, I facilitated discussions and helped to develop health improvement strategies in over 50 communities with state primary care associations.

I worked on a strategic planning project with Valley Health, the parent Board of Directors for Easton Hospital, Pennsylvania, to plan, develop and implement a Partnership for Family Health Improvement. The resulting Partnership has organized initiatives through school, neighborhood, and home-based child and family health improvement task groups.

I was engaged in a strategic planning project to position an educational and mental health services provider in a three county area of southeastern Pennsylvania, the Colonial Northampton Intermediate Unit 20 for the future. Planning was done for positioning with two insurance plan types: for commercial plans, in becoming a listed provider of behavioral health services; and for Medicaid, in positioning the Intermediate Unit with Pennsylvania counties who are facing Medicaid carve-outs for behavioral health services under the Pennsylvania Behavioral Health Care Initiative.

I provided an initial market review for a physician-hospital organization (PHO) at Elizabeth General Medical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey. This market assessment brought together elements of the provider community, insurance and payer information, and local employer preferences and perceptions.

The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), U.S. Public Health Service - I assisted with planning, development and evaluation of community collaborations to address substance abuse.

The Ministry of Health, Province of Ontario, Canada - I provided consultation on community involvement, health promotion, and collaboration for improved health status.
