General Health Status

Excerpts from The National Health Survey Report, page II-2

The single best predictor of health status in a population is the simple question, "In general, how would you say your health is?" Respondents were asked to rate their health status as either excellent, very good, good, fair, or poor. Less than one in seven (14%) U.S. residents reported their health to be excellent while more than seven in ten (71%) reported that they are in very good (41%) or good (30%) health. An additional 15% indicated their health to be fair (12%) or poor (3%). (Chart 1)
